On Saturday, the Bellmont golf team played in the Warsaw Invitational on the difficult Stonehenge Golf Course. Scores cross the field were up as the course was set long at 5500 yards and the temperatures were near 90 degrees throughout the five-and-a-half-hour round that began at 1:30 in the afternoon. Three young ladies withdrew during the day due to the heat.
The Bellmont girls rose to the challenge and shot a respectable 458 to finish 14th out of 17. Ella Hockemeyer shot a 97 to lead the team, one shot better than her round last week at Foster Park. Ava Billman and Morgan Huss each scored a solid 117.
For Billman, it was her best18-hole score of the season as she continued her improvement on the season. Huss had a few tough holes but played several good holes on the day. Kinley Martin struggled early but kept her head in the game and recorded some good holes in the latter part of her round.
Lyla Post had a similar experience to Martin, but also toughed it out to finish strong. The girls started on the back nine and the fact that their front side scores were better for all five is a testament to their toughness.

Homestead won the tourney with a score of 327 and Carroll was second with a 342. Both scores were significantly higher than they had shot the previous week at Foster Park. Columbia City, a team Bellmont beat by two earlier in the week shot 31 strokes higher than the Braves.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the effort on a very difficult day,” summarized coach Mike Macke. “They set the course long, pace of play was slow, and the heat was oppressive. Yet, the girls kept things together and even played some of their best golf toward the end.”
The girls have three matches in a row this week hosting Concordia and Canterbury on Monday, travelling to Huntington on Tuesday, then back at Cross Creek Wednesday to battle with Leo and New Haven.
