Running in the Green division of the 5K at the Rotary Invitational in Celina, Ohio, the Bellmont Braves showed progress early in the season with a fifth-place finish in a nine-team field.
Hayden Whittenbarger led the way for the Braves with a 17:37, good enough to finish 12th in the division and 33 seconds better than his time a week ago.
Another big cut in a matter of a week came from sophomore Hudson Krull, who dropped 47 seconds and took 20th place, finishing just shy of the 18-minute mark.

Harry Gunsett’s time was 77 seconds better than his efforts at the Norwell Invite and the Braves also got a significant time cut from Ethan Curtis, who leapfrogged a couple of teammates in finishing order and shaved a minute from last week’s time.

The team will hopefully get a chance to compete on their home course for the first time in almost two years when they run at their own invitational Wednesday.
