The Bellmont Braves played against some of the best high school golf teams in the area Saturday at Foster Park in an annual event hosted by Concordia Lutheran, taking home 13th place with their best 18-hole team score of the season.
“This was another step forward for these girls,” said a delighted head coach Mike Macke after the round. “We were 28 shots better than where we were last week.”
Morgan Huss and Ella Hockemeyer continued to play their roles as leaders on this year’s team and they were separated by just one stroke at the end of the day, with Huss going 97 and Hockemeyer shooting 98. Both played much better on the front than on the back.
Huss’s best round was a 107 at Wabash Valley prior to her round at Foster Park and Hockemeyer shot 105 at Cross Creek, giving them both a load of confidence headed into an important week of NE8 play and another big tournament at Stonehenge next Saturday.

It was also a major step forward for sophomore Lyla Post, who shot 51-61 for her best round this season. She cut a full 18 strokes from her round at Cross Creek last week.
“That might have been the best round of the day we had,” said Macke.
Ava Billman finished at 120 and Kinley Martin shot 121.

Heritage finished just behind Bellmont in the standings with a very consistent team day as all four scorers were within two strokes of each other. Alexis Bremer shot 112 and both Natalie Sorg and Liz Buuck were at 113.
Sorg cut eight strokes from her season best for the Patriots and Buuck was 17 strokes better than her 18-hole round in the opening week last week.
Morgan Comment went 114 and just behind her was Emma Jones with a 117.
