A couple of events held in Decatur on August 3 proved to be quite popular, according to reports given at city council’s recent meeting.
Police Chief Kevin Gerber said the open house at the Seventh St. police station “was successful. We had around 84 individuals.”
In addition, he said, “We gave away a bunch of school supplies.”

In a Facebook post, the department said: “We enjoy serving our community, and we hope everyone learned at least one new thing about your police department today.
“To everyone who donated school supplies, thank you so very much. You made a difference and helped several local young students.”
On the same Saturday, at Riverside Center, its parking lot was filled with all manner of vehicles, large and small, for this year’s Touch-a-Truck program.
“I understand it was very successful; they had a ton of kids out there,” Mayor Dan Rickord said.
Free donuts, juice and coffee were made available by the Sons of the American Legion Adams Post 43.
