Franklin P. “Frank” Becker, 90, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.
He was born on January 26, 1934 in Van Wert County, Ohio to the late Paul G. Becker and the late Emilie M. (Selking) Becker.
Frank served his country in the United States Army, being honorably discharged.
Frank was united in marriage to Betty Lou Hoeppner on July 17, 1959 and she survives.
Frank was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church – Preble. He was also instrumental in the formation of Wyneken Lutheran School, being the first Chairman of the School Board upon the school’s formation. He was also active in the Lutheran Layman’s League (LLL), being elected the First Vice President of the Indiana District. He was a member of the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.
Frank was a 1952 graduate of Monmouth High School, after which he graduated from Purdue University with an Associate’s Degree in Engineering. He retired as the Vice President and General Manager of American Wire Rope & Sling in 2009 after starting his career there in 1974.
Frank was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his family. Being raised on a farm, Frank enjoyed the opportunity he had to farm in Root Township over the years. Frank also was fortunate in being able to travel with Betty to many different areas of the country. He loved to play golf…and this past June, he was able to ride for 9 holes, which brought him great joy.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Becker of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Linette (Steve) Godfrey of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Gregory (Marilyn Bautista) Becker of Menlo Park, California; sister, Arlene (Roger) Fuelling of Decatur, Indiana; grandchildren, Madison Noelle Godfrey, Peyton Alexa Godfrey, Nicholas Paul Becker and Lauren Catherine Becker; and step grandchildren, Willa Bautista, Boston Bautista, and John Marc Bautista.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl R. Becker and William J. Becker.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble, with Pastor Andrew Yeager and Rev. Doctor Daniel Brege officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Preble.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to services at church on Saturday.
Preferred memorials can be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church – Preble or Worship Anew.
