It may be a bit odd to talk about Christmas decorations amid all the heat we’ve been having and the Fourth of July looming, but Decatur’s city council agreed at its latest meeting to add some new holiday decorations for the city’s Founders Park.
The park, the city’s newest, is on the southwest corner the Second and Monroe street intersection, across from City Hall.

Craig Coshow, a member of the city’s board of works and a former city council member, told council he was representing Louise Ray and Cathee Graves, chief organizers for the annual Christmas Opening.
Coshow said Ray found some angel decorations in a garage and would like to place six or eight of them on the park’s large south wall.
The angels are four to five feet high, Coshow said.
Since the park opened a few years ago, the only Christmas decoration on the wall has been a large wreath on its eastern corner.
“Everything Louise has done for the city is good,” Councilwoman Jenny Bowers-Shultz said.
“Yes, always,” Coshow added before council gave its approval.
