The Adams County Community Foundation would like to highlight one of the new scholarships this year that was awarded to a South Adams senior, Conner Hyman.
The Kim Tomlin Memorial Servant Heart scholarship award looks at academic excellence, excellence in the student’s chosen interests, and the personal integrity demonstrated by the student. However, this award seeks to include a factor that is perhaps less commonly seen at scholarship ceremonies: service to others.
Mark Tomlin reports that his wife Kim Tomlin was defined by excellence. He fondly recalls that she had skills that were excellent in academics and excellent in music, but those who knew her would say she had a servant’s heart. She was always looking at the things that needed to be done, stepping in to do them, doing them with excellence, and never seeking reward or recognition but only seeking to help.
The first annual ACCF / Kim Tomlin Memorial Servant Heart Scholarship Award was presented to Conner Hyman at this year’s South Adams scholarship night. Conner has extensive experience with missionary trips (Kentucky flood disaster, Ecuador, Costa Rica/Honduras), participating in the First Mennonite Church praise band, children’s ministry, and youth group. Conner participated for four years with the South Adams concert, jazz band and choir/musical. Connor will have a year-long missionary experience in Honduras before starting Taylor University to major in Youth Ministry.
