Stanley M. Whitman, 72, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN, on July 21, 1951, the son of the late Arthur H. and Marjorie R. (Myers) Whitman. On April 28, 1972, he married Denise A. Butler.
He was a 1969 graduate of Bellmont High School and served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years. He was also a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Stan worked for Bunge in Decatur for 47 years before retiring in 2016. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Adams Lodge 1311. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed going on trips with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Denise Butler; daughter, Stephanie (David) Baughman; son, Craig (Erin) Whitman all of Decatur; sister, Sheryl (George) Pace of Evarts, KY; 3 grandchildren, Lily, Isaac, and Kate. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Whitman.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. The family has requested that casual attire be worn or your favorite sports team.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Father David Ruppert will be presiding. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the American Legion Adams Post 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.
