Plans are coming together for the hiring of a learning center coordinator at the MERIT center in Decatur.
Councilman Abby Wilder, who has been working with the MERIT board on various aspects of the new position, updated city council on the plans at council’s latest meeting.
The job of coordinator would be a part-time position, working 15 hours a week at $15 per hour, Wilder pointed out.

The position will eventually become self-sufficient financially, with Connect Careers picking up the tab until that occurs.
The position will involve working with various organizations and businesses to put together clinics, programs and the like.
Wilder said she will be part of a three-person committee to interview applicants, the others being Community Coordinator Jamie Gephart and Adams Public Library System Director Kelly Ehinger.
The MERIT board should choose an applicant and recommend her/his hiring to council, City Attorney Anne Razo said.
“If it needs to grow, this is needed,” Councilwoman Jenny Bowers-Shultz said of the coordinator position.
“It’s needed, definitely needed,” Mayor Dan Rickord added.
Council approved having Wilder post the job on various social media sites.
