The Indiana Michigan Power Center in Fort Wayne has four new residents in its rooftop nest box and the company is turning to the public to decide on names for the quartet.
Recently, four peregrine falcon chicks (see photo) hatched to parents Moxie and Jamie, who have called the Fort Wayne skies home since 2013.
“We are now turning to the community to pick names for these chicks” I&M said in a news release. “With help from the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo’s Teens for Nature Program, we have a list of names (see below) that members of our community can vote on through May 15.”
The link for the survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2024falconnames.
The winning names will be announced Friday, May 17, at a banding and naming ceremony in partnership with Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehab, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Indiana Audubon Society.
People can view the chicks and their proud parents by visiting I&M’s live webcam: www.IndianaMichiganPower.com/FalconCam. The stream offers a 24/7 view of the nest box from the roof of the Indiana Michigan Power Center.
Since 1996, I&M said, 73 falcon chicks have hatched in the Fort Wayne nesting box, making it one of the more productive falcon restoration sites in the Midwest.
