The Union Township Lions Club has postponed its work day scheduled for this Saturday due to the funeral for Marie Fuelling.
The work event has been rescheduled for Monday, April 15, starting at 6 p.m.
The work day change was made “out of respect for the Fuelling family,” the club said in a statement. “The Lions club would like the community to support the Fuelling family in their time of loss.”
The 13-year-old girl died April 4. Her funeral will be held this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur.
The Lions Club said previously that workers will prepare the playground area for a new and larger playground structure which is being donated by the Lions club, as it did back in 1977.
“We would like to invite local residents to help the Lions club just as they did in 1977 when the Union Township Park was built with labor supplied by the local community,” the club said in making the announcement. “Please bring shovels, rakes, cordless driver/drill, and a great attitude.”
Plans call for removing the old wood mulch in the play area so a truck/trailer will be needed to load it.
“We will be expanding the play area and leveling it for the new equipment,” the Lions said. “With generous help from the community, this should take less than two hours.
