As Decatur’s spring collection of heavy trash ends, the city’s yard waste pickup will begin.
Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert has announced that the city will begin collecting yard waste on Monday, April 8.
The weekly pickups will continue until October.
Yard waste is collected weekly, on the same schedule as the weekly garbage/trash collection.
Residents also may take their yard waste to the city compost site located behind Riverside Center. The site is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“If you have to drag it to the curb, then we probably can’t take it,” Gilbert has said of the city effort. In other words, if the resident can’t lift a stuffed container, then city employees won’t be able to lift it either. So it likely won’t be taken away.
