The ACCF recently awarded a grant to Adams Central Elementary School for Powerful Energy Conversion Kits, allowing Lanette Buchan, Adams Central 4th Grade teacher, to teach her students about converting wind and water energy. In learning about energy conversion, the Adams Central students discovered how to build rocket-propelled cars, boats, robots and more.
Buchan expressed her appreciation for the ACCF grant as it allowed students to have an authentic hands-on experience that would not have been possible without the energy conversion kits.
Cathy Stucky, ACCF vice president and grant committee co-chair, added that the ACCF is pleased to support educational programs for our youth to experience hands-on learning.
This ACCF grant was sponsored by the Blair & Deborah Brown and Don & Louise Ray Community Enrichment funds.
Blair and Deborah (Haffner) Brown met because of Manchester College. Even though they are both Manchester graduates, they did not meet while in school; rather, they met at a Manchester alumni event years later. Neither had attended a Manchester alumni events prior to 1983; however, by happenstance, they both opted to attend this event. Coincidently, they were seated next to one another. Both were single, working professionals, Blair, a Decatur attorney while Deborah was a Bluffton-Harrison elementary teacher. Fast forward to 2018, they celebrated their 34th anniversary.
Rick Stucky, a longtime resident of Monroe, Indiana and partner in the Stucky Furniture Company, was diagnosed with acute leukemia which ultimately took his life in 2007. Married to Cathy Gerber in 1968, Rick was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Bluffton. He graduated from Huntington College in 1969. He earned his MBA from Ball State and taught business administration at Bellmont High School for nine years. This fund established as a memorial by his wife, Cathy, will provide humanitarian support for Adams Central, the arts, music and the local hospital.
