**PRESS RELEASE**
March 7, 2024
Adams Central Families,
Last evening, the FBI notified the Adams County Sheriff’s Office of a threat directed toward Adams Central Community Schools. The threat stated, “I’m shooting up the school.” It was quickly confirmed by law enforcement that the location and/or origin of the threat came from an Adams Central student.
Throughout last evening, school administration maintained regular communication with investigators who recommended closing school on Thursday, March 7, 2024. This recommendation was made to allow time for a full investigation to take place. This morning, law enforcement informed school officials that this is not a credible threat to the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and community. The student who made the threat has been removed from school until further notice. This matter is being turned over to law enforcement to complete a full investigation of this incident.
All after-school events will be allowed to take place this afternoon as scheduled, and school will be in regular session tomorrow (Friday, March 8, 2024).
I want to assure the community that the Adams Central Community Schools administration takes all threat statements seriously and will immediately turn all reports directly over to law enforcement. I also want to assure you that the safety of our students is my number one priority.
If anyone has more information to share regarding this issue or any other concerns affecting school safety. please contact Adams Central administration immediately by calling the school or visiting our website at www.aces.k12.in.us and click on Report a Safety Concern.
Thank you,
Joel Mahaffey
Superintendent of Schools
