Bellmont High School graduate Caleb Hankenson has become a full-time firefighter with the Pike Township Fire Department in suburban Indianapolis.
Hankenson was one of seven members of Pike’s 2023 graduating class who, after a year of probation, became full-time merit firefighters with the department.
They received recognition at a special ceremony held this week.
Hankenson, 26, is a 2017 BHS grad, the son of Brigitte and Steve Hankenson of Decatur. The Indianapolis resident graduated from Ball State with a degree in Exercise Science.
Another Bellmont grad, Brian Hakes, 30, also an EMT, is a member of the Pike FD.
The Pike Township Department, which covers 44 square miles on the northwest side of Indy, has 175 professional firefighters and medics working out of five stations.
