Brooks Construction Co., which spent several weeks in Decatur resurfacing streets and alleys last year, will be back again this year with the coming of warm weather.
The Fort Wayne firm has been awarded the city’s latest street paving contract, thanks to its recent low bid for the project.
Brooks submitted a bid $886,747.00, while Wayne Asphalt bid $903,291.25 and E&B Paving was high at $910,559.75.
The bids were taken under advisement at the December 19 meeting of Decatur’s board of works and safety and studied by Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert and USI consultant Beth Johnson.
Gilbert told the board at its latest meeting that he and Johnson recommend accepting the Brooks bid.
The latest street resurfacing project is being funded by another state Community Crossing grant of $810,508.10 awarded Decatur, along with a city match of some $253,300. That boosted funds available for the work to over $1 million: $1,013,135.12.
Brooks milled (removed top layer) and repaved stretches of 11 city streets last summer via another CC grant and city match, plus two other streets and six alleys done through additional city funding.
Berne was awarded $579,883 from the same program this year while Monroe will get about $264,000.
