Thomas G. Rorick, 64, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at his residence. He was born on December 7, 1959, in Decatur, IN, the son of Norman D. and Phyllis A. (Braun) Rorick. On April 25, 1981, he married Melissa K. Wilson.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He went to St. Joseph Catholic School in his youth and later served on the School Board. He also served many years on the Parish Maintenance Committee.
Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864, where he served as a Past Grand Knight and a Past Faithful Comptroller of its 4th Degree Assembly 257. He also served as a Trustee and for many years he spent countless hours helping in the kitchen for various events and functions at the hall.
He was a 1978 graduate of Bellmont High School. He was a Master Electrician and since 1991 he was the owner and operator of Rorick Electric Heating & Air.
Tom enjoyed fishing, making wine, smoking cigars, listening to music, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 43.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Melissa Rorick; his daughter, Katie (Brandon) Scherer; 3 grandchildren, Hannah, Maverick, and Hadley Scherer; his parents, Norm & Phyllis Rorick all of Decatur; a brother, Paul (Rita) Rorick of Northville, MI; 2 sisters, Geralyn (Andy) Boyden of Huntertown and Patty (Jeff) Ellenberger of Greenfield.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:00 p.m. K of C 4th Degree Honor Guard will post from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or the Gibault Home for Boys.
