When you renew the license for your golf cart, or your UTV, in Decatur, you will need to place the sticker on the lower back side of the vehicle.
The sticker destination will be finalized by city council at its Tuesday meeting following a discussion with Police Chief Kevin Gerber at a previous meeting.
Council approved an ordinance amending the original registration ordinance on two readings, and will give third reading approval at the next meeting.
Also, annual license renewals will not require an inspection; that will come only upon the first application.
The annual fee will remain at $30.
Gerber first brought the subject to council, noting that he is attempting “to clean up some verbiage in the ordinance; I want to streamline the process.”
Golf carts became legal on city streets some 15 years ago and there were at latest count a total of 344 carts registered with the police department.
Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) were legalized on city streets only a year or two ago and the PD recently had 127 of them registered.
