After a couple of mediocre seasons, a committed group of seniors are ready to bring the South Adams Starfires and coach Garrett Krieg back to competitiveness in the ACAC, and that quest begins tonight in the StarDome against Union City.

Oscar Vasquez, Zach Schwartz, Owen Wanner, Isaac Dee, Conner Fear and Diesel Zeigler will all work collectively to push the Stars past the nine-win mark, which would give the team more wins than they’ve collected over the first two years of coach Krieg’s tenure.

The Stars will help their efforts if they knock off the four teams they beat last year and that begins with Union City. South Adams started off last year with a 57-49 on the road against the Indians.

To be successful, however, those seniors will have to rely on a sophomore, Tytus Lehman, to bear the scoring load. Despite missing a few games with injury, Lehman led the team in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game.
With five of the team’s top eight scorers graduating last year, there is a lot to make up and some players will have to acclimate to the pace of varsity ball on the fly. Conner Fear had the most points last season of any of the current seniors and his total was just 50 across 22 games.

The Stars will also need to improve on their rebounding if they are to be successful this year. Lehman averaged just over four rebounds per game as a freshman, but no one else on the current roster posted regular numbers. The team does have some new height on the roster with 6’2″ Noah Hunley and 6’3″ Diesel Zeigler.
