Several hundred Decatur residents will be getting letters concerning their utility bills in the next few weeks. But don’t panic, there’s no rate changing coming.
What’s coming for some local residents is a change in when they receive their utility bills.
Utilities Director Kevin Hackman told city council at its latest meeting that 700 to 800 homes and businesses will soon be receiving letters informing them of a new date in which their bills will arrive.

The new dates are due to some United States Postal Service changes. By altering the several hundred billing dates, a savings can be accrued for the city.
“There will be a letter again next month and the change won’t take effect until January,” Hackman told city council. “There will be no effect on bills.
