A busy two days of celebrating the upcoming holidays are scheduled in downtown Decatur Friday and Saturday with the annual Christmas tree lighting and Decatur Main Street’s Holiday Open House on tap.
The tree lighting is set for Saturday, while the open house will be held both Friday and Saturday.
The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. on the Madison St. Plaza, where Santa will be meeting with children while his elves will be handing out gifts and candy.
Then, across the street on the courthouse lawn, the lighting of the large tree will begin around 7 p.m.
In announcing the two-day Holiday Open House, Decatur Main Street said, “Gather your friends and family and spread holiday cheer this weekend by supporting small and businesses and shopping local.” Numerous retailers will be offering special deals.
Santa will be on the plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday as part of the open house festivities.
Two events are scheduled at The HIVE: a Holiday Pop Up Shop from 4-8 p.m. Friday and a Kids Christmas Craft Market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Numerous details about the open house are on the City of Decatur’s Facebook page.
