Mt. Vernon dominated the Delta Invite Saturday, scoring all their team points with five straight finishers after Delta’s Nicki Southerland (17:43) and Leo’s Rowyn Norris (18:50) crossed the finish line in an event that served as a warm-up for next year’s new-look cross country sectional.
Preparing for an unfamiliar sectional course for the first time in some three decades, coach Carl Risch’s team had a great day, finishing fourth and beating the host Eagles, along with rival Norwell.
Leading the Braves was Bre Feasel in 26th place with a time of 22:23.90. She finished just three seconds ahead of senior Keeley Carpenter.
Norwell was led by Mariah Kline, who was neck and neck with Feasel and Carpenter.
Local runners will return to the Delta course for next Saturday’s sectional.
