This week brought surprising developments regarding the boys varsity basketball coaching position at Bluffton High School. Bluffton is reportedly set to name Craig Teagle, long-time boys varsity basketball coach at Jay County and Huntington North as their new boys coach.
Teagle had resigned his position at Huntington North this past April and was named as the new varsity boys coach at New Albany High School, but yesterday it was announced that Teagle was leaving New Albany to become the new coach of the Bluffton Tigers.
The Bluffton school board must still approve Teagle’s hiring.
Craig Teagle has coached for 31 years and has won 443 games in his varsity coaching career. In 17 years at Jay County, Teagle had 15 winning seasons including the last 14 years in a row. His 2006 Patriot team lost in the state championship game to New Castle. in eight seasons at Huntington North, his Viking teams had six winning seasons and won one sectional title.
The Bluffton job became open again just last week when Adam Gray stepped down as the new Bluffton coach due to personal reasons. He submitted his resignation reportedly last Thursday.
Gray had recently resigned from his varsity boys basketball position at Heritage High School where he spent five seasons in that post to move on to Bluffton.
