Gloria M. Hakes, 87, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Tuesday morning, May 30, 2023, at Adams Woodcrest.
She was born on April 24, 1936, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Joseph Garner and the late Mae (Blount) Garner. On July 29, 1954, Gloria married James D. Hakes in Pleasant Mills, Indiana and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1984.
Gloria retired from Adams Memorial Hospital finding fulfillment in helping people.
She enjoyed taking friends on long car rides and doing their weekly shopping. Gloria was known to feed the neighborhood squirrels and birds.
Gloria is survived by her son Jeffrey (Cathy) Hakes of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Rebecca Stuckey of Decatur, Indiana; son, Dennis (Toni) Hakes of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Kermit (Rita) Garner of Decatur, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Kylen Jennings; a son-in-law, Barry Stuckey; sister, Dixie (Bob) Hurst; and sister-in-law, Daisy Garner.
A funeral service for Gloria will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana with Pastor Ernie Suman officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Preferred memorials can be given to the Paws of Adams County.
