The Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) is pleased to announce that Adams Health Network (AHN) was recently awarded a grant for a new aviary, allowing AHN to provide an enjoyable and safe opportunity to experience nature while receiving skilled nursing care. The aviary accommodates live birds for residents and staff to enjoy. Located near the interior outdoor gazebo, this allows for a year-round peaceful entertainment for the residents.
Though several residents have funds in the Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF), these ACCF fund representatives were invited to help introduce this addition to the Woodcrest facility.
Norm and Liz Koons established a fund in the ACCF in 2015. Norman and Elizabeth Koons, married since 1952, have been together since first grade (1940). Both retired, Elizabeth was the children’s librarian for 25+ years, and Norman was a GE employee (designer/foreman) for 36 years. They established this fund because the Koons wanted to give back to the community where they raised their family.

The Jim and Judy Howenstine Fund was established in 2002. Jim & Judy moved to Decatur in 1972. They started the True Value Store, formerly the Coast to Coast Store, on the north edge of town in the Decatur Plaza Shopping Center (now Do it Best). True risk-takers, they both quit their secure positions (Judy as a registered nurse and Jim as an electrical engineer with AEP) to start the well-known hardware store. Jim and Judy are the parents of three children: Janna, Brian and Brad, and grandparents of four. They wanted to give back to a community that they so enjoyed.
