Huntington North jumped out to an early 11-0 lead in the second game of the Kokomo Invitational and defeated the Bellmont Braves 11-1 in just five innings amid the sleet and wind of Saturday’s nasty weather.
After Piper Baker and MK Scheumann split the pitching duties in Friday’s win over Kokomo, coach Mindy Buuck started with Makenzie Mankey inside the circle. After working a scoreless inning, she ran into trouble in the second inning finding the strike zone, walking four batters and allowing four runs.
The Vikings knocked Mankey out of the game in the third inning, where she was replaced by Scheumann, but the damage had already been done.
The Bellmont bats found no success against Madison Ptak, who threw the final four innings and allowed just one run despite registering just one strikeout.
Emily Bleke was the only Brave with multiple hits with a 2 for 3 day, while Jill Wemhoff continued her hitting streak with a single. Piper Baker added a double in the losing effort.Â
Bellmont is set to play one more game Saturday in the tournament.
