The Decatur Board of Works and Safety is expected to open bids on May 2 for the painting of the south water tower, on Line St. in Decatur.
Specs for the project have been prepared by Dixon Engineering, city Utilities Auditor Kevin Hackman told the board at its recent meeting as it approved his moving forward on the effort.

The tower will be painted like the east water tower was done several months back, but without the Bellmont Braves logo.
Ironically, the project is likely to cost more – an estimated $220,000 – than the tower with the logo as the one on Line St. is much older and structurally different.
After the Line St. tower is completed, the city’s third water tower, by the city swimming pool off Fifth St. will be next in line. “We’re committed to doing one a year,” Hackman said at an earlier meeting.
