Bruce K. Girard, 64, of Decatur, IN, passed away on March, 31, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Decatur on September 29, 1959, the son of the late Adrian Jay and Erline M. (Freeman) Girard. On November 28, 1987, he married his wife Jennifer L. Girard (Secaur), for 35 years and she survives. Hewas a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and through the years involved with many church functions and activities.
He worked at Girard and Sons Painting and Roofing, Hoosier Tool, Prestress and Rev before his retirement. He had a strong work ethic, liked to stay busy with projects and helping people.
Bruce was an avid collector / researcher of arrowheads and Indian artifacts in the surrounding Decatur area. Bruce did work with Purdue Archeology and contributed evidence to the fact that prehistoric human was indeed present in the Decatur area long before the current believed dates. So, many a day you would find Bruce doing what he loves walking through nature to find many
important artifacts. Bruce was a man of different passions collecting marbles, working on wood projects. He had the gift to see the beauty in everyday objects and turn them into treasures.
Bruce’s greatest passion was to his beloved family with kindness and gentleness. He above all gave his time, he was always putting someone a head of himself and willing to help with every task.
Bruce has a strong unwavering faith and trusts in God his Savior and lived as he believed. Bruce will be missed by his family, friends as his life made a huge impression on each one of us. To know and to love Bruce was a privilege and a gift.
Bruce is survived by 3 sons, Zac Girard, David Girard, and Andrew Girard all of Decatur; three brothers, Mike (Bobbie) Girard of Xenia, OH, Jeff (Vickie), Judd (Leisa) Girard all of Decatur; one sister, Barbara (Dave) Hitchcock of Decatur. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Suzzette Prchal and Bonnie Schultz, Brother-in-Law Jeffrey A. Secaur and a Sister-In-Law Nicole J. Strait (Secaur).
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father Dave Ruppert will be the celebrant and burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
