The Adams County Commissioners took no action on an emotional request from County Clerk Shelly Brite Tuesday for federal relief plan money to properly digitize county documents and records.
The Commissioners would not support the effort, based on the cost and whether or not aging county records need to be saved or not. Brite wanted to use $500,000 of federal American relief plan money to digitize and save many records…some of which are more than 200 years old.
Brite spoke with WZBD’s Ed Thurman about her disappointment with the Commissioners action…or lack of it…
Commissioner Steve Bailey called the action “a matter of practicality,” and said although the county needs a better place to store its records, he couldn’t support the cost.
Many of the county’s records are stored in basements that are damp and musty and can be considered a fire hazard for the records.
