This isn’t a football story. This is one of those that happens when you aren’t paying attention.
It was a tough opening-night slugfest, but South Adams walked away on the wrong end of a 45-27 final against Eastside.

Both squads traded blows for four quarters in a physical, bruising battle where nothing came easy.
Even with the sting of the loss, South Adams coach Grant Moser kept it real.
That’s one of the thousands of reasons Grant has become a dear friend; he’s super funny, he’s authentic and all-around good man.
He needs little reminder of what actually matters.
Even so, he got that reminder. Mid-conversation with me in the postgame, his daughter came sprinting across the field toward him. He paused, excused himself for a moment to catch up with her, and then stepped right back into the interview.

Even a cynical, sarcastic, game-hardened reporter like me can’t help getting a little caught up in that.

Hang tight, Coach. The days go by fast.
My own ride, the one with a racecar named Dakota, ends in May at graduation. WOW.
Dakota will be fine. Pray for her dad, please.
