The Decatur Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Concert Series winds up July this Thursday with a return performance of Silver Stallion, Country Tribute to The Highwaymen.
It will be the third Madison St. Plaza appearance of the foursome performing the music of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson.
There will be no admission charged for the two-hour (7-9 pm) show. Food trucks and adult beverages by The Oasis Pub will be available.
In addition, the 63 students who took part in this summer’s Bellmont High School Show Choir Camp will perform at 6:30 p.m.
“Silver Stallion” is a song written by Lee Clayton and originally released by him on his 1978 album “Border Affair.”
The song was later covered by Jennings, Nelson, Cash and Kristofferson and became the opening track of their 1990 album “Highwayman.”
Jeff Tankersley takes the role of Cash, while Frank Perry appears as Jennings, Larry Walsh as Nelson and Alan Tedders – a stage veteran of 40-plus years – as Kristofferson.
Based in Kingsport, Tennessee, the band members have playing together for over five years.
Silver Stallion says on its web page that it “combines authentic wardrobe, recognizable stage presence, and a talented live band to create an experience that feels both nostalgic and exciting.”
According to Wikipedia, the Highwaymen was an American supergroup of country music artists.
Between 1985 and 1995, they recorded three major label albums as the Highwaymen: two on Columbia Records and one for Liberty Records. Their Columbia works produced three chart singles, including the number one “Highwayman” in 1985.
