Plans are moving forward on converting an old park into a new park in Decatur.
The Decatur Parks and Recreation Department is seeking grants which will be used to convert the South Ward Park off Winchester St., between Grant and Studebaker streets, into an all-inclusive playground
Sitting in for Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber, Chris Krull told city council at its latest meeting that the park will have a play structure for kids 2-5 years old and another for those 5-12.

Four different types of swings are planned.
Most items will be at wheelchair transfer height and sensory items will be included, according to the report.
The park will have turf and will be fenced in, Krull said.
Also in the plans are rest rooms with changing tables and an attached pavilion, and a parking lot with around 15 spaces.
Two grants have been applied for and two others will be sought.
One of the grants is a community-match type. “So if we are approved, we will put out a link for community members to contribute…,” Krull explained.
If the grants being sought are approved, construction for the new park could begin yet this year, he added.
