Two key errors led to four unearned runs and spoiled a fine pitching performance by Jami Roach as the Adams Central Flying Jets’ season came to an end on the South Adams diamond, with the Woodlan Warriors advancing to the championship game with a 5-2 win.

It was quite a different game than the 12-8 matchup that Woodlan won in the regular season. The two teams went into the seventh inning with the game tied at two.

After Roach got the first batter, he got to two strikes and induced a ground ball that should have been the second out of the inning, but the play was not made and the runner reached. Roach got the next batter with a strikeout, but a pair of wild pitches sent the go-ahead run to third base and Jordan Halsey was walked to put runners at the corners.

Ashtin Jacquay then delivered the hammer blow to the Jets, driving in both runners after Halsey took second on a steal.

Ethan Funk came into the game in relief, but Evan Koch drove in another run before Funk could close out the inning.

Malakai Yates, who had come on in relief once starter Will Delagrange got to 70 pitches, got the Jets out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. Delagrange had allowed just one earned run in his 4+ innings of work. Yates was credited with the win for Woodlan.

Adams Central had more hits (seven) than the Warriors (six), with seven of the nine batters in the lineup picking up a single.

The Jets ended the year with a 7-15 record.
