A southeast Indiana farmer says the 2026 planting season remains at a standstill.
Roger Wenning says consistent rainfall has kept him out of the field.
“We got a bunch of our beans done in April, but we haven’t planted anything in May,” he says.
According to the latest USDA crop progress and conditions report, Indiana corn and soybeans are 67 percent planted, and 42 percent emerged. Winter wheat is 56 percent headed and rated 73 percent good to excellent.
He tells Brownfield the crop is off to a solid start.
“They look pretty decent,” he says. “I think for the most part, we’ll be okay. I don’t think we’ll have any replant. We’re looking pretty good.”
Topsoil moisture is 84 percent adequate to surplus, and subsoil moisture is 79 percent adequate to surplus.
Wenning says he has about 350 acres left to plant.
He raises corn, soybeans, and wheat in Decatur County.
