The Decatur Police Department and students in the Bellmont High School class responsible for the Kozy Koda fundraiser recently got together.
The police department said Chief Kevin Gerber, School Resource Officer (RSO) Andrew Elwell, and K9 officer Koda held a debriefing meeting with students in the BHS Principles of Business Management class.

The class, headed by instructor Bryan Lineberry, came up with the idea of the fundraiser and carried it through to a highly successful conclusion.
A total of 350 of the plushy Kodas – each wearing by a police department wrap – were ordered and sold in two phases. Donations of $20 or more were accepted for the dogs, with 100% of the money raised going into the police department fund that supports Koda – a fund that relies solely on donations..
In their meeting, the police department said, each student got up and explained their role in the project, along with areas of the project that struggled and areas that exceeded expectations.
The project raised nearly $2,300.
Earlier, the students and police officers handed out some 143 of the plushies to residents of the Health Center and the Memory Care Center at Woodcrest.
Adams Memorial Hospital, Hoosier Pattern and the Porter Family Foundation (Formula boats) sponsored the presentation of the small Kodas.
After the debrief meeting, the police department said, each student and Bryan Lineberry were presented a department challenge coin as well as a certificate of appreciation in recognition of their dedicated hard work towards the project.

“We have no doubt these young men will be future entrepreneurs, successful businessmen, or owners of their own operations someday,” the department said.
