A lot has changed over 65 seasons in high school wrestling in Adams County, but one thing linked the 1962 season with the 2026 season – a gymnasium with a wrestling mat centered for a crowd of rabid wrestling fans. Tuesday night saw the Bellmont wrestling program, proudly representing their Decatur High School roots, take on Muncie Central, just like they did in 1962, but the outcome was much different and the home team and fans celebrated their heritage with an 81-0 victory.

Faced with a late empty slot in the schedule, Bellmont head coach Tim Myers invited coach AJ Bradley’s team to Decatur not as a challenge, but as a celebration of the long wrestling history between the two schools.

The score was immaterial to the success of the night, as the outcome was predetermined, but it didn’t matter for either coach. Myers and his staff share a tremendous respect for wrestling in Muncie and for coach Bradley, who regularly shares his mutual respect for Bellmont each Sunday night on High School Wrestling Weekly on WZBD.

The Bearcats left the old gym empty-handed without a win, but there were plenty of positives for the young Bearcats, who saw just how great high school wrestling can still be.
The Braves will return to their normal home Thursday night against Yorktown.
