Sara Lou Briggs, age 97, of Geneva, IN. passed away at 5:10 PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Woodcrest of Decatur in Decatur, IN. She was born on Thursday, March 1, 1928, in Celina, OH. Sara D. married James Briggs, Jr. on Friday, August 4, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church, Geneva, IN; he preceded her in death on April 14, 2011. Sara was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Adams Co. She furthered her education at Stephen College in Columbia, MO. and received her degree in education from Michigan State University. Sara was a devoted teacher, she taught English at Bryant High School, Geneva High School and later at South Adams High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Geneva where she was a member of the Mary Martha Circle and sang in the choir. Sara enjoyed reading and mowing the yard.
Sara will be sadly missed by her sons, John (Penny) Briggs, Wolcottville, IN, Richard (Carolyn) Briggs, Decatur, IN, Christopher Briggs, Indianapolis, IN, and Andrew (Rhonda) Briggs, Geneva, IN, granddaughters, Emily Briggs-Bourgerie and Leslie Snider, and great granddaughters, Mallory Snider and Avery Snider.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Briggs, Jr., father, John Carl Sink, mother, Lucinda Marie (Karch) Sink, sisters, Jean Ann Sink, and Joan Ann Beckham.
As per Sara’s wishes, there will be no viewing or services.
Arrangements are being handled by Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
