DECATUR – One of the better teams in recent memory for DeKalb High School came to Bellmont Friday night and dominated the Braves from start to finish, scoring 55 points and chowing down on some local pizza on the way out of Bob Worthman Stadium before heading home with their sixth victory of the season.

Eli McCormick came into the game with 1500+ yards and only needed to play for two quarters to put the Barons up 41-0 before he was pulled from the game. By the time he departed the game, McCormick had already thrown for 131 yards on 8 of 14 passing and three touchdowns.
McCormick put the visitors up 7-0 on his first drive, but the following two attempts by the Barons stalled on fourth-down attempts. DeKalb then switched up the play calling and went with their big running back, Xavier Vice, and he carried the ball all six times on the drive. Vice picked up 56 yards and needed just 87 seconds to score with the no-huddle offense, pounding the ball down the throats of the Braves.

DeKalb essentially scored on every single drive the rest of the way, breaking the back of the Braves even further with a pick-six and a punt return TD. The Barons even skipped over a Braves’ possession by recovering a short kickoff that Bellmont left untouched on their own 30-yard line.

Offensively for the Braves there was very little to smile at. They gained just 96 yards of offense and turned it over three times. Freshman QB Charlie Faurote was forced into some tough spots as the offense grew more pass-heavy in the second half, taking some big hits by DeKalb linemen. He finished the night 12 for 29 for 61 yards, sacked three times.

Jason Lykins had 25 yards rushing on seven carries to go along with three catches for 13 yards and a fumble.

DeKalb ended the game with 308 yards of offense.

Bellmont will play at NE8 leaders East Noble in Week 9.

The loss was the 65th in the last 66 games for the program.
