The Bellmont Braves faced a very accomplished Columbia City team on Wednesday evening and the Eagles dominated with their three top singles players, taking the match as a team quickly, but coach Mason Vrablic’s team showed some grit and battled in the doubles matches as the team played with a new lineup with the sectional just a week away.

Columbia City won the match 4-1, taking the three singles matches in straight sets. Caleb Coats jumped into the No. 3 spot for the Braves in their new-look lineup and the freshman performed admirably, losing 6-1, 6-3.

Coats moved into the singles spot to give classmate Grayden Kable a chance to jump into doubles play with Kasey Teeter, whose boisterous play brought the level of Kable’s game up a notch for a victory to avoid the shutout. Coach Vrablic praised both players after the match.
“For someone to come into the team and be new to the sport,” Vrablic said of the freshman Kable, “it really showed how much improvement both he and Kasey have made this season.”

The Braves are right back in action Thursday in what should be a good match at home for Senior Night for Larry Knous against New Haven.

The IHSAA will release the sectional draw for Z-Land teams on Monday night, with play set to begin on Tuesday next week.
