Monday’s match against New Haven was all but a foregone conclusion for the Bellmont Braves, who had already been crowned NE8 champions last week. With the Bulldogs the last-place team in the conference, coach Kyle Arnold’s team used the match more as a warm-up for sectional than as a match on which to focus.
The re-scheduling of the match from an earlier rain-out was likely a blessing for the Braves, who ended up drawing the bye in the Norwell sectional. With heavy rains forecast for all of Tuesday, and potential for more precipitation Wednesday, it’s likely that the team may not get a chance to play again until late in the week.
The Braves dropped just three games across the five varsity matches at New Haven Monday. They will face Norwell on the second day of the sectional, whenever that may be due to the rain. Bellmont swept past Norwell for the first time in years earlier this year, 5-0
