Appointments, some year-end work with bureaucratic requirements, and plenty of “Merry Christmas” wishes marked Decatur City Council’s Dec. 17 meeting, the last one of 2024.
All the appointments were for terms which begin January 1.
Council named Craig Russert and Aaron Rhymer to the city’s redevelopment commission, while mayoral appointments tapped Ron Storey, John Summers and Jeremy Friedt for the same group.

Rhymer is the only new appointment to the five-member redevelopment commission, replacing Jason Bird, who asked to step down.
Meanwhile, Shane Cauble and Kevin McIntire were given new terms with the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). Other members of the BZA are Dave Schnitz, Chris Shoat and Phil Summers.
Josh Zimmerman, the city’s infrastructure manager, was named to a new term representing the city on the Adams County Regional Sewer District’s board.
In addition, council made both conflict of interest disclosures and nepotism policy compliance matters of record.
A resolution was passed to transfer funds within several departments, and another approved encumbrances of $389,056.83 to the 2025 budget.
