New lineup, new faces, new scoring rules.
Same old result.
The Bellmont Braves won another close match against a quality team with more bonus points scored than conceded, beating Wawasee 40-35 Friday night.
The two teams split the 14 bouts 7-7 and with both sides unable to fill the lineup, the dual meet was set to end with the coaches trading six-point forfeits to end the match.
That set up a 12-bout sprint and to say it was back and forth would be putting it lightly. Nearly every final result either tied the match back up or flipped the lead from one team to the other.
By the time the Braves got to the final contested bout of the night, they trailed. That put Grady Baker in a position to either win the meet or be the scapegoat. The junior took care of business and scored four takedowns in 90 seconds before getting the fall.

Wawasee jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but freshman Gabe Myers and sophomore Henry Faurote tag-teamed their way to a pair of tech falls to even the tally. Faurote was on his way to a fall, but was not given the opportunity to score six points as the official determined that he had adjusted to work for the fall after the takedown clinched the 15-point margin. Henry settled for a 21-6 win.

Will Franze won quickly at 144 with a fall, but Wawasee stole one right back at 150.
That see-saw battle between the two sides continued with wins for Bellmont at 165 with Gavin Davis and 190 with Xavior Palacios.
Austin Manley had an admirable debut with the opening takedown at 157 against Carson Nine, but dropped a major decision against the more experienced wrestler and Landon Rich fought valiantly and nearly rolled Alex Dibble over in the third period for a surprise fall, instead dropping the bout, 9-6.
After the match, coach Tim Myers discussed how active his team was on their feet and how positive their attitude is in practice.
“This group is going to go out and get after guys, and that’s what I like about them,” said Myers.
Sophomore Henry Faurote drew a comparison to what his coach said and applied it to his practice partner – Gabe Myers.
“He attacks ’em and he goes after ’em. He seems like a calm guy, but on the mat, he’s very aggressive,” said Faurote of his teammate.
After surviving the opener against the Warriors, the Braves will travel to Snider Tuesday for another dual before heading to Goshen for a two-day, ten-dual tournament after Thanksgiving.
