The City of Decatur has been awarded another huge Community Crossings grant from a State of Indiana program, this one topping well over $1 million..
The grant, believed to be the city’s eighth from the state matching grant program, totals $1,456.125. With Decatur’s 25% grant, nearly $2 million will be available
It will provide funds for not only paving numerous streets, but also considerable sidewalk work, local officials said.
“We are very excited to receive the Community Crossings funding once again,” exclaimed Mayor Dan Rickord. “This component of Gov. Holcomb’s Next Level Roads program has had a tremendous impact on local roads all over the state of Indiana.”

“We are very thankful to the governor and our state legislators for continuing this incredible program.”
“With the help of many, we will be able to make a huge impact to the (many) neighborhoods with sidewalk replacement (existing only), curb ramps, curbs, milling and repaving of the following streets,” city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert said.
A total of nine streets, totaling 2.11 miles, will be resurfaced next year through the grant.
“We will open bids at the second (city council) meeting in December and award in January, with construction to start in early 2025,” Gilbert said.
