A team can’t be swept 3-0 in high school volleyball by a finer margin than the way the Bellmont Braves were beaten by NorthWood Saturday.
The Panthers won the opening set on their home court 25-23 Saturday morning, then needed to get all the way to 27 points to take the second set before winning the match and exacting some revenge on the Braves with another 25-23 win in set three.
MaryKate Scheumann, the state’s leader in kills, tallied her 1000th career kill during Saturday’s action. She led all players in the contest with 22 kills.
Alyssa Gumbel had seven kills and three blocks for the losing side.
Clair Payne led the Panthers with 13 kills.
In the second contest against Angola, the Braves met a tougher opponent and were once again swept. The Hornets won 25-19, 25-19, 25-17.
Scheumann had a team-high nine kills, while Gumbel had six.
Angola’s outstanding outside hitter, Maya Harris, led all players with 17 kills.
