Huntington North scored 63 points on a porous Bellmont defense in the first 20 minutes of Friday’s NE8 contest in Huntington, then respectfully ran out the clock for the Vikings’ first NE8 victory of the year.
The second quarter was especially lethal for the Braves, who allowed six touchdowns in a matter of seven minutes before Huntington North called off the dogs for the rest of the game.
Viking QB Tony Decker ran for three TDs and 57 yards on four attempts, while also finishing 6 of 8 in passing for 93 yards and two scores.

Marcus Linker led the Vikings with 156 yards rushing on just 14 carries. He scored two touchdowns in the middle of the second quarter.

Easton Curtis started at quarterback for the Braves, but was pulled in the first half for Daniel Selking.

The freshman was 1 for 5 for three yards. Curtis later returned to the game and finished 8 of 16 for 121 yards. He threw a pick-six after Huntington North scored on the first play of the second quarter while the Braves were stuck at the 20-yard line.

Oliver Werling led the Braves in rushing with just 11 yards on five tries. He made four catches for 33 yards. Werling was the leader on defense with a team-high eight tackles, including a sack and two tackles for loss.
Mekhi Zeitvogel had a 38-yard catch – the highlight of the night for the Bellmont offense.
Logan Resendez had seven tackles for the Braves.

Along with the pick-six, the Braves lost three fumbles, giving Huntington North fuel to the blazing first-half fire.

Things do not get easier for the Braves in the weeks ahead. Ranked 298th out of 314 football-playing schools in the IHSAA, Bellmont must still play Leo (#40), DeKalb (#114), New Haven (#179) and East Noble (#33). Huntington North entered Friday’s game at #117.
