Two second-half goals by the Generals of Wayne High School on their home turf gave the SAC school a 3-2 victory over visiting Bellmont Thursday evening.
The Braves had taken a 2-1 lead with goals in the first half by Henry Faurote (shown below) and Daniel Vogel, but Bellmont did not find the back of the net in the second half.

A penalty call and a bizarre play accounted for two of the three Wayne goals.

Coach Derek Trobeck insisted to the official that one goal should have been disallowed after the initial ruling of a corner kick was overruled and quickly turned to a goal kick and a breakaway for the Generals. The BHS gaffer felt that his players were positioning themselves for a corner, but the goal kick instead put the ball right back into play before any of the Braves understood the call. The resulting goal stood and the Braves’ run of three away fixtures in three days ended in some heartbreak.
“We have to learn to keep our composure,” said Trobeck after the game. “That means on the field, on the bench, and in the stands. We have to be able to overcome adversity and not hide behind it.”

Jake Hackman (on a corner kick, shown below) and Carsten Hudson provided assists for BHS.

Xavior Palacios made nine saves in the first half, while Parker Frietas got the minutes in the second half, allowing two goals while making three saves.

The Braves will thankfully return home for a pair of games next week with Huntington North and Blackhawk Christian.
