It had been a while since coach Randy Hisner’s team had run a race on their home course. After losing the sectional in an IHSAA revision of the postseason, the team’s lone home event was canceled last year due to excessive heat.
This week’s weather nearly repeated last year’s cancellation, but the race was shortened to a 3200 M race instead of the typical 5K.

Hayden Whittenbarger ran a faster time than any of his 3200 attempts this spring in the track season to finish second behind Bryan Garcia of New Haven, who won the race.

Hudson Krull was fifth for the Braves and was followed by a trio of Braves in 11th, 12th and 13th.

Adams Central edged Heritage by just one point thanks to Ethan Crockett’s third-place finish within an arm’s length of Whittenbarger.

Marshall Harris led the Patriots with a time of 11:19, good enough for sixth.
