Despite not having any of the top nine finishers in Saturday’s season-opening girls cross country meet, the host Norwell Knights took home the title, with all five scorers finishing in the second group of nine from 10th to 18th place. The hosts edged Yorktown and Leo for the trophy.
Rowyn Norris of Leo and Sophia Haslett of Lakewood Park were the only two runners to break the 20-minute mark in the early-season meet.

Adams Central’s Madison Gerber finished fourth overall with a solid time of 20:39.4. She was joined in the top nine by Addison Gilbert, helping the Jets to a fifth-place finish.
Freshman Sydney Angel was the top runner for the Bellmont Braves, taking 24th place with her time of 23:55.7.
Ava Smith led the Heritage Patriots, who did not field a full team of at least five runners for the event. Smith’s 44th-place time was 25:21.1.
