The Adams County Community foundation and the Don Wood Foundation have partnered up to update the ACCF 8th grade Literacy Scholarship application. Previously, the ACCF Literacy Scholarship awarded books and magazines to students placing in first, second, and third places. This scholarship has been updated to allow students to be given the opportunity to win a premier lit-stem award along with first place, second place, and third place. The premier Lit-STEM award is a programmable robot with an estimated value of $100.

First place recipients earned up to $60.00 while other award amounts were: $35.00 for second and $25.00 for third place.
The Adams County Community Foundation recently awarded 248 Adams County students with Lit-STEM awards. Though the reading and STEM materials were the tangible awards, students also gained experience and knowledge in project based learning.
Applications for this scholarship provide students with a hands-on learning experience of what they will encounter in 3 to 4 years when applying for college scholarships, seeking employment or filing government applications. Since establishment of this program in 2000, over 4000 students have reaped the benefits of this program. Further, the ‘rewards’ component of the project emphasizes real-life skills and allows students to: (1) learn how to research options, (2) use math skills to determine potential prizes and (3) prioritize choices of books and/or magazines within a set budget.Â
Second place winners were: Sienna R. Ahern, Alexander Michael Alana, Riley Alexander Black, Cole R. Bollenbacher, Genesis Mary Burgin, Jensen Thayne Conkling, Cali Layne Dalrymple, Josselyn M. Deavers, Kenneth J. Eicher, Jencee A. Foster, Danica Marie Alice Funk, Alyssa Bailey Garwood, Keaten M. Garwood, Reid Michael Gerber, Isabelle Ann Hammond, Andon J. Coni Mayer, ACCF director, noted 71 Adams Central students participated in this life skills project that will give them a step forward in the scholarship process. Colleges and community scholarships are exceptionally generous and it is not too soon for students to begin thinking about this process. Colleges are working earlier and earlier each year to search out qualified candidates for their awards and the ACCF has moved the due date for the ACCF / Lilly Scholarship competition to Wednesday, September 11, 2024 for the 2024-2025 graduating seniors.Â
