In a rare split decision, the Adams County Commissioners have approved the installation of a couple of new cameras that will help area police agencies find vehicles they are searching for.
The new camera system is already used in more than 40 states across the country to help police find cars that are on the “wanted” list for suspicious or criminal activities. The cameras only read license plate numbers and limited other information about the vehicles in question.
Police say the cameras in the “Flock” system give them a needed tool to help with investigations. However, Adams County Commissioner Steve Kuhn doesn’t see it that way. he voted against approving the cameras, saying they are a violation of individual rights. Sheriff Dan Mawhorr doesn’t see it that way, and convinced the other Commissioners to approve it. Mawhorr spoke with WZBD’s Ed Thurman about how the cameras are a vital tool…
On a 2-1 vote, the Commissioners approved installing the cameras as part of the “Flock” system. Afterwards, Commissioner Steve Kuhn was visibly upset with the vote, as he continued to call it a violation of individual rights.
